What makes an object worth keeping?

Emotions play a key role in deciding what we cherish and what we discard. Objects that fulfill their purpose are often forgotten, yet their material and form can hold lasting value. This idea inspired Schau!, a design that connects two concepts: forgetting and transforming. By using recycled materials, innovative production techniques, and technology, Schau! breathes new life into discarded items.
The Design
Schau! is an outdoor lamp crafted from transparent glass bottles, repurposed to create functional and aesthetic value. The design consists of two main parts:
A glass bottle body, cut and beveled at a 15° angle, raised 70–85 mm off the ground, with its neck serving as a light fixture holder.
A complementary LED unit that emits soft, diagonal ambient light from the top of the bottle to the base. The lamp allows for adjustable light direction, intensity, and operation via touch or remote control.
The Story
Inspired by the journey of a glass bottle in water, Schau! symbolizes feelings, wishes, and transformation. It adapts to different users and spaces, creating playful interactions while meeting practical needs. Designed to evoke an emotional connection, Schau! is not just a lamp—it’s an essential companion for any outdoor setting.
This project showcases the potential of sustainable design to create meaningful, functional, and emotionally engaging objects.
